The British controlled the entire country until its independence in 1948. Sri Lanka is renowned for its rich diversity in nature, culture, and experiences.     Sri Lanka’s currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee, abbreviated as LKR. As of December 2024, 367 rupees for 1 Sterling Pound. (1 USD = LKR 292). Most Hotels will also exchange and accept major world currencies.

    Credit Cards are widely accepted nationwide at hotels, restaurants, gas stations, and most shops.

    Sri Lanka has two monsoon seasons that coincide with the country's agricultural seasons: the Maha monsoon is from October to January, and the Yala monsoon is from May to August.
