Tangalle has some of the best beaches in the country and is often less crowded owing to its separated beach coves offering seclusion. Tangalle provides easy access to three National Parks, Yala, Bundala and Udawalawe. Sri Lanka’s only ocean blowhole, “Hummanaya”, the second largest in the world, is also situated in Tangalle. The Tangalle Lagoon is a quiet haven of birds and other wildlife to explore by paddle boat. Little Sigiriya, or Mulkirigala, is an ancient monastery atop a 673-foot rock with fantastic views and archaeological treasures.

The best times to visit Tangalle are between December and April.

Tangalle is easily accessed by car via the E1 expressway and takes around 2 hours from Colombo. Beliatta railway station is the closest to Tangalle, about 9 km from Tangalle town.

Go beach hopping in Tangalle to explore the many beaches, such as Goyambokka Beach, Silent Beach, Mawella Beach, and nearby Hiriketiya and Rekawa Beach, which also has a sea turtle hatchery. Visitors can also explore Mulkirigala, often called “Little Sigiriya,” an ancient Buddhist monastery rock cave. Hummanaya is the only ocean blowhole in Sri Lanka and the second largest in the world. Explore Sri Lanka’s wildlife at Yala, Bundala, or Udawalawe National Parks, easily accessible from Tangalle.
